Our friendly and professional staff have a wealth of knowledge and experience which, combined with our purpose built surgery, means we can provide a complete range of medical, surgical and diagnostic services for pets and exotic animals. Our surgery is fully heated and air conditioned and continues to invest heavily in state-of-the-art equipment and staff training.  

  • 24/7 On-site Out Of Hours Emergency Service

    • A vet and nurse available 24/7 providing a familiar face with your pets records at hand at these stressful times. Our dedicated team of Night Vets and Night Nurses remain on site throughout the night to ensure your pet receives the best care.

  • Consultations

    • 15 minute appointments (longer for referrals) allow thorough examination and discussion of our findings and treatment options. 

    • Evening appointments are available to reduce the need to visit as an emergency outside of normal hours and help our clients access veterinary care alongside their work and family commitments. 

  • Nurse Clinics

    • offer advice and support helping keep your pets healthy including Dental and Senior Pet Clinics, Weight Watchers, Puppy and Kitten Clubs, Anal Gland Emptying, Microchip Placement and Claw Clipping. Many of our Nurse Clinics are free of charge to clients and VIP Club members.

    • Senior Pet Clinics and in house “MOT” blood tests to detect early signs of disease, arthritis care and special diets to help our older pets get the most out of life.

    • Microchip implantation - for any species to increase the chance of being re-united with missing pets

  • Routine And Non Routine/Emergency Surgery

    • 2 dedicated operating theatres with full monitoring equipment including ECG, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, capnography and temperature control with heated operating tables 

    • Our priority is always to keep your pet as safe as possible so our anaesthetic protocols are tailored to each patient and include Sevoflurane (a gas anaesthetic used in human paediactric surgery). 

    • Whenever possible (even for routine surgery, unlike many practices) intravenous catheters are placed. 

    • All patients are monitored throughout surgery and recovery by qualified nurses. 

    • Neutering packages include pain relief to go home with to ensure your pet is comfortable during their recovery. 

    • Orthopaedic Surgery - including fracture repair, cruciate ligament repair and luxating patella correction.

  • Dental Care

    • Preventative advice, scale and polish, tooth extractions, dental x-rays and dental abscess treatment for dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and exotic pets.

  • Hospitalisation

    • for short or long term cases in separate cat, dog and exotic wards to provide the correct environment for your pet and minimise stress. 

    • Hospitalised patients remain at the surgery and do not require transportation elsewhere

    • Separate Isolation ward for infectious cases. 

    • Canine patients benefit from a secure dog run to allow exercise.

    • Nebulisation and oxygen therapy for pets with breathing difficulties.

  • Laboratory 

    • Rapid patient-side monitoring and diagnosis even outside normal working hours.

    • Urine analysis including crystal detection

    • Blood analysis (requiring only 0.1ml of blood making it suitable for even tiny patients)

  • Diagnostic Imaging Suite

    • Digital x-ray producing high quality images of the largest dogs down to the smallest fish and lizards

    • Dental x-ray allowing precise dental imaging of all species to identify hidden problems and ensure appropriate treatment 

    • Ultrasound machine including Doppler ultrasound to assist imaging the heart

    • Blood pressure and ECG monitoring.

    • On site CT Scanner to allow advanced 3D imaging including tumour staging, surgical planning and disease investigation including investigation of diseases of the nose, bones, ears, chest and abdomen

    • Hip and Elbow Scoring - Certain breeds of dog are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia. If you are planning to breed from your dog we can perform hip and elbow scoring to assess the risk of these diseases being inherited by the puppies.  A low hip score from the parents is an indication the puppy is more likely to have normal hip and elbow conformation. However, there are other factors affecting hip conformation apart from hip scores so it must be remembered there is no guarantee the puppy will be free from hip or elbow dysplasia.

    • Pregnancy diagnosis and monitoring ultrasound scans and neonatal care for all species.

  • Laser Therapy Unit

    • Assists treating inflammatory and painful disease including osteoarthritis, spinal pain and wounds reducing the need for medication and therefore reducing potential short and long term side effects. 

  • Vaccinations, Flea, Worm And Tick Treatment

    • We believe in offering the best vaccine for your pet using protocols tailored to the risks facing your pet to avoid over or under vaccinating. Titre testing is also available on request. 

    • We provide vaccine packages for rabbits (including Viral Haemorrhagic Disease 2), cats and dogs including Kennel Cough and Rabies Vaccines.

    • Not all vaccines are the same - We stock the safest and highest quality vaccines on the market offering your pets the best protection

    • Effective and quality flea and worm treatments (including roundworm, tapeworm and lungworm) chosen for the benefits to your pet. Flea and worm advice clinics are FREE OF CHARGE with our qualified Veterinary Nurses

  • Puppy Parties

    • For puppies aged between 8 and 14 weeks

    • These evening classes aim to help socialise your puppy with people and other puppies as well as build their confidence in new environments and familiarise them with the surgery

    • Tips about basic training, nutrition and behavioural problems (and hopefully how to avoid them)  

  • Physiotherapy 

    • Run by our qualified veterinary nurses

    • For management of soft tissue injuries, sports injuries, orthopedic disease including osteoarthritis and spinal disease and after surgical procedures​

  • Nutrition

    • We stock high quality foods for cats, dogs and exotic pets to minimise potential health problems at different life stages (e.g. furballs and kidney problems in cats, dental and joint disease in dogs, respiratory disease and low calcium and Vitamin A levels in birds, dental and intestinal problems in rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, mice and ferrets and degus)

    • We would like to assure you no food is sold on a commission basis

  • PETS Passports

    • Our vets are Official Veterinarians meaning we can complete the paperwork and examinations required for import, export and PETS Travel Scheme Passports.

    • Some of these services can take several months so we recommend contacting us well in advance and contacting DEFRA to confirm your requirements.  PETS Helpline 0870 241 1710 (UK only).

  • Repeat Prescriptions

    • Can be requested by telephone (01692 407126), email (practice@tollbarnvets.co.uk) or in person. 

    • Please allow at least 48 working hours notice. 

    • Written prescriptions can be provided on request, please note there is a small charge for this to cover administration costs.

    • The law requires animals on medication are examined by a vet a regular intervals determined by the type of medication.

  • Luxury Pet Hotel

    • Caring for cats and small mammals (including rabbits) whilst owners are on holiday allowing peace of mind that pets are receiving the best possible care from qualified vets and nurses during their stay. 

    • Pets on long term medication such as Diabetic or hyperthyroid pets are also welcome!

  • Memory Garden

    • Located to the side of the surgery our memory garden offers a peaceful and tranquil environment to sit and contemplate treatment decisions as well as remember loved pets who are no longer with us. 

  • Insurance Claim Forms

    • Please remember to bring a claim form at the time of treatment.

    • We regret we are only able to make “direct claims” with certain companies, however, we can complete claim forms for all companies. Please contact us for more advice regarding the benefits of insurance.
